FAQ 5: What are the subjects that I need to take in ASASI?
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS BASED ON 2014/2015 BATCH'S EXPERIENCE. THERE MIGHT BE CHANGES ON HOW IT WORKS FOR THE NEW BATCH.
Below is the subject list for science students in 2014/2015:
For Sem 1, we had 8 subjects - Bio 1, Chem 1, Phy 1, Logical Reasoning (Calculus), Language and Literary Appreciation (LLA), Statistics, Research Skills and Pembangunan Jati Diri Kebangsaan.
For Sem 2, we had 7 subjects - Bio 2, Chem 2, Phy 2, Vector Calculus, Critical Thinking, Research Project and Kepimpinan dan Membuat Keputusan
Each subject is designed based on the American AP (Advance Placement) syllabus incorporated with some degree level syllabus. Difficulty level of all subjects varies individually, but from our experience, the killer subject for Sem 1 would be Logical Reasoning, as well as Vector Calculus and Phy 2 for Sem 2. Nevertheless, there are still students who were able to score 4.0 for both Sems, so don't worry, everything is possible in ASASI. A course proforma will be given at the start of the semester so you know what to expect from the lessons. Notes will be provided by lecturers for each subject. Reference books are not compulsary, but feel free to consult your lecturer on which reference book they'd recommend if you are planning to buy one.
Assessments of subjects are divided into:
a)internal assessments (40%) and
b)external assessments (60%)
The internal assessment consist of the Final Exam only, while external assessments are made up of quizzes, assignments, lab reports, mid-semester exam, presentations etc. Not all subjects will be tested in the Finals, the only subjects tested are:
Sem 1: Bio 1, Chem 1, Phy 1, Calculus, Statistics and Language and Literary Appreciation
Sem 2: Bio 2, Chem 2, Phy 2 and Vector Calculus
The other subjects which are not tested in the Finals will be evaluated completely based on external assessments. All quizzes and exams will be tested in English, but some lecturers might prefer to teach in a mixture of Malay and English, with English being the main medium. However, 'JatiDiri' and 'Kepimpinan' will be conducted in Malay. Still unclear? Fear not! You will be given a detailed briefing on the subjects and their evaluation during your orientation week, OR feel free to post your question here.
