FAQ 7: How will life be like (or what can I expect) as an ASASIpintar student?
ASASIpintar? What is it about? And how’s the life as an ASASIpintar student? What should I expect? Hmm….Well, haha, basically, as an ASASIpintar student, that means you already come to a new level and no more leading the life as if in the secondary school. A lot of new things are waiting for you to be explored and learnt. Of course, no more spoon feeding and it’s the time for independent learning.
Basically, you will undergo a life similar to university life, with more freedom but at the same time be more responsible with your studies and everything. Being here, you are expected to be on the way to become a more holistic person, not only academic-oriented, but also exposed to more, learn to think more critically, become more open-minded, know how to socialize with people, study how to be a good leader as well as working as an effective team, provided that you are willing to. At the same time, you should be expected to become more proactive in learning and know how to do research, and its skills.
Yeah, there is no co-curriculum here, but this doesn’t mean you will solely study and sit for exam. For us, we got the opportunities to do activities such as group work, presentation, project making, debate, forum, filming, charity work etc. And there are members in 13/14 batch who got the chance to join the Helicopter Smart Control Competition organised by ANGKASA UKM. For 14/15 batch, we got the chance to join IC-GATE held in Permata and we met a lot of recearchers from other countries who did researches on gifted education. At the same time, there are also a lot of events (not under Permata and ASASIpintar) organised by the university and also degree students throughout the years, such as SUKEM (Kejohanan Sukan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), residential college’s own carnival, musical festival etc. If you have free time and feel interested, you can join, of course with the prerequisite that the activities are open to all warga UKM. Yeah, forgot to say, ASASIpintar students are also warga UKM. And for sport-lovers, you can actually play the sport in the courts in UKM when you are free, haha *Healthy lifestyle*
As alumni of ASASIpintar and a former member of Permata in the future, there might be expectations on you from the public as well as the university. As such, don’t fear, fully utilise the 1 year to grow and learn as much as you can and surely you can fulfil those expectations and to be the best that you can.
The important things are, when coming here, don’t seal yourself off nor isolate yourself from others. Instead, keep the good attitude you always have, be open-minded, always possess the enthusiasm to learn and try new things, willing to help each other, don’t be selfish and don’t ever give up. If so you surely can get used to this environment and achieve success. And an unforgettable and precious friendship might await you.
