FAQ 4: How is the transport system in UKM? Do I get to travel around, or am I confined? How about food? And also dress code?
ITEM 1: TRANSPORTATION
1. From residential college to Permata building
Based on our batch, transportation will be provided specially for AP students. A bus will take u in the morning, and take you back in the evening. If you are staying at Kolej Keris Mas, you can just walk back because the distance (Kolej Keris Mas and Permata) is like 30 mins (or less) of walking. So if your class ends earlier than other class, you can either walk back to your hostel or just hang around Permata while running some errands or doing our own works, like completing assignments, doing group discussion, etc to wait for the bus for other class.
2. Travel round UKM
There are 4 buses, 3 UKM ones, which are, Zon 3U, Zon 2, Zon 6 and the last one is not under UKM which is RapidKL.
If you are staying at Kolej Keris Mas, you will be frequently using zon 3U. This is the bus that you will be taking if you want to go to the library, Pusanika (UKM’s ‘shopping complex’) etc.
Here’s a list of route of the bus:
Kolej Keris Mas >> Pusat Pengajian Siswazah >> Kolej Antarabangsa Ibu Zain >> Kolej Dato’ Onn >> Fakulti Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan >> Perpustakaan Tun Sri Lanang >> Kolej Aminuddin Baki >> Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi >> Kolej Ungku Omar >> Kolej Burhanuddin Kelmi >> Fakulti Pendidikan >> Fakulti Kejuruteraan >> Fakulti Teknologi dan Sains Maklumat >> Fakulti Undang-undang >> Fakulti Kejuruteraan >> Fakulti Pendidikan >> belakang Pusanika >> DECTAR >> Kolej Rahim Kajai >> Kolej Antarabangsa Ibu Zain >> Pusat Pengajian Siswazah >> Kolej Keris Mas
Regarding the bus service, there are actually 3 types provided by NADI PUTRA :Zon 3U, Zon 2 and Zon 6. Zon 6 will travel throughout the UKM and to the KTM station while Zon 3U and Zon 2 only in UKM with slight difference in their routes. Zon 2 bus starts from Kolej Pendeta Za'ba, never reach KKM while Zon 3U bus starts from Kolej Keris Mas but never reach Kolej Za'ba.
The bus system is about every half an hour, and their lunch time is from 1pm to 2pm so try to avoid that time because no bus will be available that time (However, do confirm back because this timing may change). So far this bus system is free of charge! Just that, it’ll be good to greet and say thanks to the bus driver Pak Cik! #permatacourtesy
3. Finally, transportation for outing (yeay), etc (To ‘get out’ of UKM, haha)
Just take the zon 6 bus to the KTM Komuter station. Get down. Walk up a little hill and you will reach the KTM station. It will be easier for KL-Lites. For those who never use this mean of transportation, just google it. It’ll be good if you save the photos of the route of KTM Komuter, LRT and monorail in your phones. Anyway, this public transport really makes travelling around easier, it is just that sometimes you need to change trains, etc. Don’t worry! You guys will get the hang of it, pretty soon!
Oh, and there is one special bus, RapidKL which will take you directly to Kajang town. It will usually stop at 2 places, the Kajang bus station/Hentian Kajang and near to Plaza Metro Kajang. This one, you will have to pay RM1. RapidKL is usually used when you want to go to Hentian Kajang to board the bus, or go outing at Econsave and Metro Kajang.
ITEM 2: FOOD
You will most probably be in Permata from morning till evening, thus lunch is SOLD at Permata. That's right, it is not boarding school concept anymore. Your own food is your own responsibility, not Permata's nor Keris Mas's cafe. Each residential college have their own cafes, so no worries. It is just that in KKM, we sometimes face 'food crisis' cause sometimes the cafe closes during degree breaks. Then, we will take a bus to a kiosk near the library to eat or even easier, call for delivery (only Domino’s Pizza and Pizza Hut T.T). No need to worry about food, although they won’t come to you but I believe they have the power to make empty stomachs come to them. But do not starve yourselves for the sake of saving money or etc. Got to eat although a little to keep that mind going!
ITEM 3: DRESS CODE
Simply put, for classes, no jeans, no shorts, no slippers. Need to wear formal wear (shirts and ties for guys, Baju Kurung or decent blouses or shirts paired with slacks or knee-length skirts for girls) on Monday and other official occasions. For other days, it will be okay for both guys and girls to only wear collared t-shirts and pants. No matter what it is, wear decent clothes.
